A website is never done. It should be constantly analyzed and developed further. Perfection is a forever moving target. Don’t try to nail everything at once.
This is a serious issue. Even more serious is that it is generally very hard to find a vendor that can actually deliver something like that.

"RaceTimer on erityinen ajanottojärjestelmä, jonka tunnusomaisia piirteitä ovat:
Lähtönumerolappuun yhdistetty UHF-mikrosiru. Siruja ei tarvitse erikseen jakaa eikä kerätä takaisin. Vapaaehtoistyövoiman tarve pienempi, käsittely nopeampaa ja kustannukset alhaisemmat.
Ajanotto kaikissa tapahtumissa, joissa aika on keskeisessä osassa.
Tosiaikainen tulospalvelu.
Väli- ja loppuaikojen lähetys tekstiviesteinä osallistujille.

"The graph-based SPEAR algorithm (Spamming-resistant Expertise Analysis and Ranking) is a new technique to measure the expertise of users by analyzing their activities. The focus is on the ability of users to find new, high quality information in the Internet. At the same time, the algorithm has been shown to be very resistant to spamming attacks. We based SPEAR on the well-known information retrieval algorithm HITS by Prof. Jon Kleinberg (1999) which is used by search engines like Yahoo! or Google to rank Web pages. We modified SPEAR so that it fits to the characteristics of the Social Web / Web 2.0, and extended it with a second component that integrates the timeline of user activities into the analysis in order to further improve the performance of the algorithm (see figure 1). "So, we've added an articles section to the documentation with three new articles:
* "Creating a Mobile Store Locator" shows how to query a database for stores near a user's location, and how to present that in a nice mobile-friendly webpage.
* "Using PHP/MySQL with Google Maps" shows how to pull data from a SQL database as XML and display that on the map.
* "From InfoWindows to a Database: Saving User-Added Form Data" shows you how to enable users to add geo-tagged information to a database via your map application.

"To tackle this problem, we created the SPEAR algorithm. SPEAR (Spamming-resistant Expertise Analysis and Ranking) is a new technique to measure the expertise of users by analyzing their public activities on platforms like Delicious. In the case of the latter, this means analyzing the timeline of the bookmarking and tagging activities of users. The focus of SPEAR is on the ability of users to find new, high quality information on the Internet. A great benefit of SPEAR is that it returns two very useful sets of results: first, a list of users ranked by their expertise; and second, a list of websites ranked by their quality. So, whether you are looking for experts on Delicious for the programming language JavaScript or want to find the best websites on photography, SPEAR can help."

"Last Friday, I was looking forward to go home after a long work week. Alas, I got held at the office all Friday night, due to one little thing: Internet Explorer, once again bugging out (IE 7 in this case).
And since IE once again managed to destroy my personal life, I thought I’d dedicate a little song to it (this is a web developer’s adaptation of Tenacious D’s Fuck Her Gently):"

"It has been reviewed almost 6,000 times and received a low average rating of 1.6 stars out of a possible five stars. Many Facebook members have left messages in the application's page complaining that FanCheck disrupted their Facebook profiles and their PCs as well.
The developer challenges these accusations. "In general, applications can never damage your profile or PC unless they ask you to install something on your computer. FanCheck does not, and never has asked people to install anything on their computer, although it did require Adobe Flash to work," Arulkumarasan said."

"Why the growth? The app lets you see which of your friends spend the most time posting and commenting on your profile wall, and also lets you see who spends the most time posting on your friends’ walls. It’s a new way to monitor friendships, shall we say. The app used to be called “StalkerCheck,” the company says, until Facebook made Smile find a less menacing term."

"In fact, it's already happening. Witness 10 Irrational Human Behaviors and How to Leverage Them to Improve Web Marketing. Don't say I didn't warn you.
Let's take a look at the various excerpts presented in that article, and consider how we can avoid falling into the rut of predictably irrational behavior — and defend ourselves from those vicious marketing weasels. "

"Accessibility has become a hot topic as increased awareness and growing requirements demand that applications take into account the needs of all potential users. Accessibility covers not only the Web application, but document, desktop application and hardware, and so on. In the Web application domain, making static Web pages accessible is relatively easy. But for Web 2.0 technology, dynamic content and fancy visual effects can make accessibility testing very difficult. This article introduces the WAI-ARIA standard, which is designed to make future Asynchronous JavaScript and XML (Ajax) widgets accessible. The article also covers accessibility principles in Web 2.0 design and provides several code samples to get you started."

"Her reluctance to use Twitter, a feeling shared by others in her age group, has not doomed the microblogging service. Just 11 percent of its users are aged 12 to 17, according to comScore. Instead, Twitter’s unparalleled explosion in popularity has been driven by a decidedly older group. That success has shattered a widely held belief that young people lead the way to popularizing innovations."

"Today, Google is upgrading its Forms tool in Google Docs, adding a number of new features. Forms is basically a way to conduct a survey, with responses added automatically to a spreadsheet. Users now have a more compact, grid-like form in which to collect data. They can now quickly gather responses for a group of similar questions by simply labeling a few columns and creating as many rows as they like."

"Inline validation gives people several types of real-time feedback: It can confirm an appropriate answer, suggest valid answers, and provide regular updates to help people stay within necessary limits. These bits of feedback can be presented before, during and / or after users provide answers.
Putting inline validation to the testTo better understand the design considerations behind inline validation, I worked with Etre, a London-based usability firm, to test 22 average users on six variations of a typical web registration form. Aramys Miranda developed the form we used with our users, who ranged in age from 21 to 49."

"Tänä päivänä yhä useampi joutuu visaisen pulman eteen: mitä tapahtuu verkosta löytyvälle elämälle kuoleman jälkeen?
Kysymykseen ei ole helppoa ja yksinkertaista vastausta, sillä eri verkkopalveluiden toimintatavat, lainsäädäntö ja sen tulkinta vaihtelevat."
