Every map holds a promise, and hides a lie. Cartography purports to represent reality, so the map reader can navigate the world. But maps only exist because their makers manipulate reality, if only by selecting what to show. Maps always represent some kind of truth, but never the whole truth. If you know who made the map, you’re generally able to make a stab at the narrative behind it – and which story it isn’t telling.

Ensuring that your iPhone or iPad app is accessible (in this case, to visually impaired users) is the right thing to do, and thankfully it’s very easy – in many cases, there’s no work to do at all. This article for iOS developers describes how to implement accessibility support.

Corning, the company that makes the Gorilla Glass used in the recent Nokia handsets, has released a concept video that I just couldn't resist embedding below. Entitled "A Day Made of Glass" it shows the complete integration of technology and the glass displays it powers, including numerous instances where the smartphone is a vital tool in the information chain. It's five minutes long but well worth watching – it's a glimpse into the future, probably five to ten years away.

The functioning is quite basic and helpful. For example you might be visiting my blog on sports cars and if my site is Kiosk enabled, you will be shown a hotspot, which indicates a presence of a kiosk. Now when the hotspot is clicked you can make a purchase right from my blog and I am in return rewarded for the purchase. To me it is better than banner ads that populate blogs otherwise, you can have these kiosks placed on anything that might interest your visitors.

Why oh why every major update for Firefox breaks mouse gestures? (See earlier whining.)
This time it was Firefox 4 and surprise surprise gestures didn’t work after the installation (I had Mouse gestures Redox installed).
Well, luckily Firegestures does the job, too.

It is our goal today to create graphics of similar concision and power, but about something more useful than war—sex.
All the data below, even the most personal stuff, has been gleaned from real user activity on OkCupid. Some of it our users have told us outright by answering match questions; some of it we've had to learn from observation.
Other than the unifying theme, sex, there's no big point or thesis to this post: just comparisons, correlations, and quirky trends.

Verkkoapteekki on toiminut vuodesta 2006 myyden aluksi ei-lääkkeellisiä apteekkituotteita kuluttajille koko Suomessa.

Always develop with progressive enhancement in mind, by thinking about your coding in layers:
Start with plain, well-structured HTML to display all your content
Next add the CSS to create an advanced layout. This essentially provides your non-Javascript version
Javascript should be the final layer that adds enhanced behaviour to those users that have the capability

German Green party politician, Malte Spitz recently got a court order forcing Deutsche Telekom to reveal all the location data it had collected from his mobile phone. German newspaper Zeit has used six months of this data to create a Google Map showing how Spitz' movements were tracked over half a year.
The map animates Spitz' movements over the six months and includes a time-line that lets you check his location on any day and at any time of the day, during the six months. The amount of data collected is amazing (some would say frightening). His location was logged 35,000 times just in that six month period.

Tell people you know there's a problem, and show what you're doing to fix it. It's simple advice, but refusing to take those two steps is the reason many crises progress to dangerous levels. Kudos to Google for nailing it!
